Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

By Brad Boruff, Music Director

Valentine’s Day is coming! I hope you will remember the one you love on this special day. The flowers, the candy, the cards, and all of the other expressions of love on Valentine’s Day are important. But these outward expressions are only the beginning. True love is a commitment, and it is seen in the daily sacrifices we make for one another all year around.

According to I Corinthians 13, love:

  • suffers long
  • is kind
  • does not vaunt itself
  • is not puffed up
  • does not behave unseemly
  • does not seek her own
  • is not easily provoked
  • does not think evil
  • does not rejoice in iniquity
  • rejoices in the truth
  • bears all things
  • believes all things
  • hopes all things
  • endures all things
  • never fails

I would encourage you to go slowly through this list and try to identify these evidences of love in your own life. Does your spouse receive this kind of love? If your spouse True love is a commitment, and it is seen in the daily sacrifices we make for one another all year around.experiences this kind of treatment from you 365 days out of the year, he or she will definitely feel loved.

What would it cost us to love like the Bible says we should love? How difficult would it be for us to love with I Corinthians 13 love? I know that if we are honest with ourselves, most of us have a long way to go before we love this way. It will take a lot of effort, but it will be worthwhile. It will cost some time, it will cost some effort in our thinking, it will cost putting our spouse first and our preferences last. It will require faith in one another, it will require trust, and it will require patience.

I hope you remember the card, the flowers, and the candy. I hope you will express your love this Valentine’s Day. But I hope you will also prove your love by investing Bible love in your mate all year long.
