Though it may seem like it is in the distant future, September 2 (the day that the dorms open for new students) is really just a few weeks away. Are you ready to pack your things and head for your new home-away-from-home? If you are feeling a bit unprepared, here are a few basic tips for getting ready to take this important step.
1. Finish Strong
At the time of this publication, some high school seniors will have already graduated while others will have a week or two left in school. If you are still in school, finish strong. Are you ready to pack your things and head for your new home-away-from-home?Study for your finals, maintain a good Christian testimony, and set an example for the rising senior class that will follow you. Don’t do something during the last few days of school that you will regret for the rest of your life.
2. Work and Save
A summer job is a must, and it is even better if you can find a way to have two jobs. You will need to have some money saved to help you get started. You will want to have enough time to look for a job after you get to college, so it is best if you can have funds set aside for your first two payments ahead of time. You can also do yourself a favor by paying your first payment early!
3. Take the ACT Test
It will simplify your life a little bit if you can take the ACT test before you get here. You can find locations near you where the test is being offered at www.act.org. If you are unable to take the test before September 2, you will be able to take the test this fall.
4. Live for God
Bible college is definitely a spiritual experience, and you will want prepare your heart by having a daily walk with the Lord. Read a portion of Scripture each day, and spend time in prayer. Get involved in the ministries of your local church. Find a way to help your pastor. Perhaps you could help clean the church building or mow the lawn. Join a bus route or help in a Sunday school class.
Though this list is not exhaustive, these practical ideas will help you prepare for Bible college. I have never been more excited about seeing young people preparing to serve the Lord with their lives, and I am looking forward to what God has for us this fall here at GSBC!
