I am convinced that Golden State Baptist College is the finest Bible college in America. I believe in and stand behind its philosophy, its program, and its product. Therefore, as you would expect, I frequently advise young people to prayerfully consider this college for the furtherance of their training in full-time Christian service. Yet, though I believe strongly in this institution, I also believe that recruiting young people to this college should be committed in an ethical manner that exemplifies the principles upheld by the institution itself.
Let me remind our administration, faculty and staff, and our alumni of our attitude and ethics regarding recruitment:
- Do not recruit (i.e., call, write, e-mail, etc.) any student or send information to any student who is already enrolled in another Bible college. Should you happen to speak with such a student, encourage him to remain where he is.
- If a young person tells you he is enrolling in another Bible college, support that decision. Respond in this manner: “You will enjoy that college!” or “That’s a good school!” or “You will love it there!” Do not sow any seeds of doubt in his mind about where God has led him.
- Encourage siblings to attend the same Bible colleges.
- Never criticize another Bible college.
- Do not use high-pressure tactics to attract students.
- Do not take advantage of another school’s misfortune for our benefit. For example, jobs are not plenteous in some areas of the country where there are other good Bible colleges. Do not market that fact as a means of drawing young people here.
- Be more concerned with prospective students and their needs than with enrollment numbers.
Let us all remember to be ethical in our approach to and methods concerning student recruitment.
