The first week of March brings Mid-semester Examinations for those at Golden State Baptist College, and that means we are at the half-way point of the semester. The coming weeks are especially important for our students, because many of their most important assignments are due after mid-terms.
Life is the same way for most people. None of us know how much time we have on this earth. Psalm 90 is a prayer of Moses. In verses 10 and 12 of this prayer, Moses, who lived to be 120 years old said, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by"...so teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” God gave Moses many more years than he expected, and yet his life did come to an end.
Most people would agree that Moses accomplished his most important tasks after he turned sixty, after the half-way point of his life. Just like our college students who have many important assignments remaining even though the semester is half completed, each of us has many things that we can do for God in the days ahead. No matter how old you are or how long you have been saved, I believe that the Lord has great things remaining for you to do.
As I look at my own life, I have to admit that if we use Moses’ measuring stick of “threescore years and ten,” I have passed the half-way point of my journey here on earth. However, I certainly hope that the greatest days of my life and ministry lie ahead, and I sincerely believe that can be true for all of us. Let us look for greater ways to serve the Lord and determine to press on in our service to the King of kings!
