So Doing

By Brad Boruff, New Life Couples Class Teacher

“Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” Matthew 24:46

God has been so good to us to allow us to live in this day and age. We have so many wonderful blessings that simply did not exist in the early church. We have beautiful buildings, big choirs, and wonderful musical instruments. We have informative bulletins, well-staffed nurseries, and exciting youth groups. We even have Sunday school for all ages!

The Sunday school is a tool that helps us to perpetuate the action of the early church. They spent time together in fellowship, breaking of bread, prayer, and the apostles’ doctrine (Acts 2:42). The Sunday school hour is a teaching time. It helps us to continue in the apostles’ doctrine. Our activities afford us fellowship with other believers of like faith. Most churches divide the Sunday school classes in a way that encourages fellowship. People of similar ages and life situations get to know one another, and it strengthens them in the Lord.

Our theme this year at North Valley Baptist Church, So Much the More, is taken from Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” If the Sunday school is designed to help us function more like the early church functioned, we certainly ought to be involved in it. If we are already involved, we should work to become more involved and not less involved.

We do not know when Christ will return, but we do know that He is coming soon. When He comes, may he find us “so doing,” So Much the More.
