Voice of Triumph

The Voice of Triumph

By Brad Boruff, NVBC Music Director

Psalm 47:1 – “O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.”

In Psalm 47 God’s people are admonished to rejoice in victory. We serve an all-powerful, almighty God. He has never lost a battle, and His purposes have never been disappointed. He is victorious, and He wants His people to realize that they can be victorious in Him.

Notice that the psalm begins with actions we might find in the stands at an athletic contest. “Clap your hands.” We clap our hands when things are going our way during the game. “Shout.” We shout when our team scores. We are excited!

There is a certain voice that we use when we are victorious. You will notice this especially at the end of the season. Our team wins the championship game, and we rejoice with an intensified tone of voice. We shout and scream, “Can you believe it!?! We won, we won!!!” You could say that we use a “voice of triumph.”

If you read the end of the Book, you will notice, we win. All those who worship God will win in the end. God wants us to realize that we have victory through Jesus Christ. We are “more than conquerors” because of Him. God wants us to live our lives that way, and He wants us to testify to others that we serve a triumphant God.

The next time we have an opportunity to sing for the Lord, let’s take Psalm 47 to heart. Let us “shout it out.” Let us sing out with a voice of triumph!
