Day 3 - Iloilo Baptist Church Pastors' Conference
Thursday, October 2, 2008
We were picked up promptly at 7:30am to go to the second day of the Pastors' Conference. According to Bro. Martin, there were close to 1,100 pastors present for this conference.
We were able to hear three great messages in the morning. Mark Bachman, missionary to Germany, spoke on the difference between a convert of Christ and a disciple of Christ. Bro. Bachman is being used mightily in Germany to win many Germans as well as Muslims to Christ. Dr. Russell Anderson then followed with a message on the fullness of the Holy Spirit. The morning preaching service concluded with a sermon from Evangelist Allen Domelle about having the grace of God upon our spirit. God moved in all these messages, and many responded to the invitation.
Bro. Martin also honored Dr. Anderson for being a friend to the ministry here in Iloilo. Dr. Anderson, as a businessman, has given much to the work of Christ in America and around the world. He has been used of God to build many churches and schools. He has demonstrated by his giving a life surrendered to God.
As usual the special music was tremendous. We were blessed to hear the orchestra and special numbers. Choirs from several Bible colleges in the area sang the special numbers. One can see the love for Christ as the singers sing their songs.
After the morning preaching service, Bro. Martin treated us to lunch at a restaurant by the river. The food was great. So far, we’ve had no problem consuming what has been set before us. Bro. Martin and his staff have been terrific hosts. We have been treated like royalty.
After lunch, we headed back to the hotel to catch up on some rest or do some shopping before heading back to the church for the final service of the Pastors' Conference.
We arrived at the church at 6pm and listened to the orchestra as they played a 30 minute prelude before the service began. Many in our group have commented on how great it has been to hear the orchestra play.
During the service, Bro. Martin had our delegation go up to the front; he then presented our pastor with a plaque for being a friend to the ministry here at IBC. Bro. Apusen accepted the plaque for our pastor. Pastor Trieber has a vision of helping Bro. Martin start 400 churches here in the Philippines. By God’s grace, we have helped support 81 pastors and purchased the building materials for their church buildings. Lord willing, we will add to that number significantly this coming January. Our pastor is very well respected here at IBC and it was a thrill to see him honored in front of these many pastors.
We heard Dr. Anderson give the final message of the conference - a message about making deposits in our heavenly bank account. The message was filled with many tremendous truths and illustrations of how we can have our needs met if we will simply put God first. Again, many hearts were touched, and scores responded to the invitation call.
