Day 6 - Tamocol Baptist Church and Iloilo Baptist Church
Saturday, October 4, 2008
Group 2
By 7:45 a.m. we were headed to Tamocol Baptist Church in the city of Tamocol pastored by Pastor Daryl Mansures. North Valley Baptist Church recently purchased the building materials for this new church. Pastor Mansures has pastored this church about 9 months and is doing a great job. An average of 50 people attend his church on Sundays. The trip took us about an hour and a half and while en route to the church, the rains started pouring down very hard. The vehicle we were riding can only take us so far down the road. The rest of the trip consisted of walking across the rice paddies on a very slippery mud path with the rain coming down in sheets. Barbara Kiel and Jonathan Escobar both took turns falling into the rice paddies. Some in our group walked barefooted in order to keep from slipping.
Once we got to the church, we were given water to wash our feet and shoes. The ladies once again taught the children Bible stories and provided the special music for the service.
Jonathan Escobar preached the morning service, and he did a wonderful job.
The people were very friendly and hospitable. They treated us to some homemade lunch after the service was over. The food was delicious.
We went across the rice paddies again to get back to the vehicle. Everyone made it back to the vehicle without falling in the rice paddies this time.
At the hotel, we had about 3 hours to get ready for the evening service, so some in our group decided to get in some shopping.
Both groups 1 and 2 joined up to go to the evening service. Rob Rowe led the welcome song using a pom-pom. Bro. Martin asked the men and ladies of our group to sing specials after the invitation was over.
Bro. Apusen preached on “Following Jesus." Many responded to the invitation. There were also about 7 salvations and 2 baptisms.
After the service, Bro. Martin invited us to his house for some dinner and some time of fellowship. Bro. Martin is such a great host.
Tomorrow, we leave at 5am to go to a couple of public schools to share the Gospel and also to visit 3 or 4 churches that NVBC supports.
We’ll tell you how that trip goes tomorrow…
